La Fiesta- 562 W Mt Vernon St #9681, Nixa, MO

4/5

Walking into La Fiesta, you can immediately tell that it is a family establishment. Luckily for them, I totally loved it. Though they had a small staff, they did not disappoint. I got the Tacos Deshilachados (three chicken tacos) for $8.70, and it was good as far as tacos go. I would have preferred more flavor overall but the chicken holds its own. Typically I’m more of a salsa than a queso girl, but the cheese on that taco was amazing! Combining juicy, flavorful chicken with creamy, melted cheese has to be one of the best ideas in history. I took home one of the tacos, and honestly, the leftovers might have tasted even better.

La Fiesta is a small restaurant, and when you walk in, the atmosphere is very comfortable. They seemed to be a little bit short-staffed, as you would currently expect from any restaurant, but they still made their food well. To start, we had chips and salsa, which tasted a bit stale but they were still good. For dinner, I ordered the Mexican enchiladas and they were very filling. It came with one cheese, one bean and one chicken enchilada, and was topped with salsa verde, mole and cheese. Rice was given on the side. In the enchiladas, the cheese was very creamy and delicious, the bean enchilada was appetizing, and the chicken enchilada was a little bit dry but all of the sauces balanced it out. It was a good meal, and I would definitely order it again.

El Monarca – 105 Water St, Nixa, MO

Kaitlyn Witts’ Take

4/5

El Monarca was definitely busier than La Fiesta, and due to low staff numbers and dinner rush, they did mix up a few orders. I didn’t get what I ordered, which was the Burrito Sancho with chicken but the pork burrito that I did get) was probably one of the best burritos in Nixa. The sauce was flavorful, the queso was melty, and the pork was mouth-wateringly savory. The servers were very nice and the decor was fun. A portrait of Frida Kahlo hung above our table, and I got to mercilessly drop a knowledge bomb on my family. Aside from the mix-ups, it was a great restaurant.

El Monarca, like La Fiesta, was a smaller restaurant with few staff. It was very busy, but the servers still prepared quality food and gave good service. We started off with chips and salsa here as well, and they were fresher, so I liked them more. For dinner, I ordered a chicken enchilada with beans and rice on the side. The enchilada was topped with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and lots of other things. The flavor lacked a small bit in the chicken, but the sauces and toppings definitely compensated for it. The meal was amazing and I enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend eating here, and I would definitely order that meal again.
