Guns are designed to kill, they don’t have any other purpose. Civilians don’t need these weapons of mass destruction. If you take the guns out of people’s hands, you take the bullets out of their bodies.
How many times have you been in school and heard a loud noise and thought that it was a shot? Children and teachers are dying in schools–a place that is supposed to be a safe haven. I should not have to walk into school panicked and scared that I could very well not walk out of that building. Little elementary school children should not have to be doing school shooter drills multiple times a year.
It’s almost every other day that on the news I hear someone’s been shot. Bang! A robbery. Bang! A racist shooting. BANG! Multiple teachers and children are dead. Children and teachers that had bright futures ahead of them — so much more to do in life — but now they can’t because a gun took that all away from them.
Guns make death tolls higher. The United States is the country with the most school shootings in the world. The leading cause of deaths in children is now gun violence.
Politicians and groups like the NRA, turn a blind eye to all of the slaughter as long as there’s money to fill their already fat pockets. Citizens let these people brainwash them into thinking that we need our guns in case the government tries to take our freedoms away. But in reality, the government could do whatever they wanted; They have access to weapons that can destroy entire countries. Rifles and pistols won’t do anything against the government. These weapons only lead to atrocities when left in the hands of everyday citizens.
Not only does the government let your average dude have a gun, but they have barely any regulations on them. The state of Missouri doesn’t even require firearms to be registered. In multiple countries gun restrictions have been proven to bring down the number of school shootings and shootings in general significantly.
Gun restrictions like background checks, mental health screenings, prolonged waiting to obtain a gun and increasing the age of legal gun purchasing need to be put into place to stop the slaughter. If it is harder to get access to a gun less people will die. The fact that we haven’t banned these weapons yet is preposterous. At this rate our current gun restrictions are setting the stage for horrific tragedy. Getting rid of guns makes sure that people’s blood stays in their bodies.
