The number of coffee shops and restaurants that do not serve iced coffee are few and far between. Starting in 1920, the cool drink has regained its popularity with the Millennial generation. The trend does not stop at just Millennials either. You could surely find an iced coffee in the hands of any teen or young adult.
I wanted to see what the hype was about for myself and decided which is better. Iced or regular coffee?
First off, I do not think iced coffee is good in winter. I am already cold, why would I want to drink something cold as well? I feel that iced coffee should be more of a summer drink or something seasonal.
With that being said, there is a big problem with regular coffee. The heat. Let’s be honest, when you get a coffee you can’t drink it right away, you will melt your mouth. You have to let it sit for a few minutes before you can even drink it. So to get the same taste with out the molten mouth is definitely a benefit to iced coffee.
Now, the taste, since I am on a budget I got these brews from Scooters and not Starbucks. To get a more accurate testing I got a plain iced and regular coffee. So there was not any added flavors to any of the drinks. There was a difference though. With the iced coffee, I could taste that familiar coffee flavor. The regular coffee, I could only taste heat and pain. This goes back to the draw backs of the regular coffee being scorching hot.
Between the two I would have to pick the iced coffee. It is less have a strenuous activity to drink iced coffee because it is not as hot as normal coffee. I was able to actually taste the flavor of the coffee. Overall the iced coffee was a more enjoyable experience than the regular coffee.
