Nixa High school displays a variety of athletes who perform for different outcomes. The gym is composed of surplus perspectives on fitness, however one thing that is always agreed upon is the importance of motivation.
One all-round junior athlete, Wyatt Vincent, who consistently stays fit for his many sports, knows the upper-hand of motivation.
“[The most important thing in the gym is] Probably consistency, making sure you’re doing it right,” Vincent said. “First of all, good form and making sure you do it everyday cause if you miss a week, you come back and everything’s off.”
The gym is used for more than just gaining muscle.
A sophomore experienced lifter, Tyler Stankewitz, says one of his favorite achievements gained from the gym.
“Early on, the biggest achievement with weight training is that I lost a lot of weight,” Stankewitz said. “I think the first time I did I lost about 40 pounds, that and dieting contributed hugely to that goal.”
The gym does not just strengthen the appearances of some, but it can also be the upper-hand in competitions.
A senior varsity wrestler, Kelsey Watts, took advantage of the opportunity acquired from the gym.
“When I started wrestling that’s whenever it [lifting weights] came more serious,” Watts said. “It definitely puts you at an advantage if you’re stronger than your opponents and that is usually where I outdo all of my opponents when they have better technique than me.”
