Summer break of 2024 is quickly approaching, and many students have begun to prepare their summer playlists, for all of the activities they are looking forward to.
Freshman Mackenzie Lewis has been listening to her summer playlist, “SUMMER” that she started putting together about a month ago.
“I’ve been listening to my playlist while tanning at the beds, to get my pre-tan on before summer is officially here,” Lewis said.
Freshman Ella Lindsay’s summer playlist is called “Saltwater and Sunburns.”
“I really like oldies groovy music, like Billy Joel and stuff for summer,” Lindsay said.
Some people associate different styles of music with specific memories, or periods of time in their lives.
“I really like a mixture of hype songs and mellow songs for summer,” Lewis said.
If you are looking for inspiration for what songs to add to your summer playlist, Lindsay has some favorites she recommends.
“Some songs that are definitely must-haves for my playlist are ‘Brazil’ [by Declan McKenna], ‘Vienna’ [by Billy Joel], ‘Maria’ [by Dua Lipa], ‘Ivy’ [by Frank Ocean], and pretty much all of the ABBA songs,” Lindsay said.
Mackenzie Lewis also has some top songs she has on her playlist that, to her, are ‘never-skips.’
“My favorites on my playlist are ‘Left Hand Free’ [by alt-j], ‘We Are The People’ [by Empire of the Sun], ‘Hell and Back’ [Bakar], and ‘Flashing Lights’ [by Kanye West],” Lewis said.
Lewis and Lindsay both agreed that the appropriate time to start putting a summer playlist together is exactly when you are feeling the anticipation start to rise for the summer.
