The Nixa High School Dance Team performs the same routine at each Nixa High School home football game, but those who pay attention during their halftime performances will notice their performances vary. Their work to do different routines continues on.
Head dance team coach for Nixa High School and Nixa Junior High Kayla Warner said there are questions about their performances.
“I think there is a big misconception that the dance team does the same routine all season long, but we are constantly preparing for a new routine,” Warner said.
The team uses time outside of school to prepare for their performances.
“We practice Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and every other Sunday,” said Warner. “We practice for two and a half hours during the week and three hours on Sunday.”
NHS sophomore dancer Brylee Welch said the dance team practices multiple routines per practice each week.
“We practice a lot, and go over our routines over and over again,” said Welch.
Not only from practicing during the school year, but they also begin preparations for the next school year in April.
“Our season starts in April after tryouts, and then we start preparing for camp,” said Warner.
The NHS Dance Team attends multiple events around Nixa and tends to bring an extra spark to those events, but Nixa citizens wonder what the exact spark is, and why they bring new performances to each game.
“It’s their energy, I think people can see how much this team loves one another, and at the end of the day that’s what Nixa is all about, the community, and that is really what the dance team is,” said Warner.
