“Beauty and the Beast,” the musical at Nixa High School this fall, is being performed in November. The student actors will be performing the musical on Nov. 7, 9 and 10.
Beauty and the Beast was decided upon recently in the summer of 2024 when the directors realized they wouldn’t have another chance to perform it.
“Beauty and the Beast is going back into the vault so it’s now or never,” theater teacher and director Lakyn Wools said
When something is placed in the vault it essentially means that no one can use it until it is let out of the vault for public use. The directors made their decision after they held meetings at the beginning of the 2024 school year.
“Every year the directors meet together to see what shows we want to do,” Wools said. “We have a pitch day where student actors recommend shows they would like to perform.”
This way the group won’t choose a musical or play that doesn’t interest the possible cast. Senior Evie Dean, who is playing Marie, is excited to see the end result of the show.
“I really like the mob song, it’s a lot different, it has a different tone,” Dean said.
Wools said she was excited as well.
“I’m excited to see all of the enchanted objects come to life,” Wools said.
When producing a show it requires having to know resources and products needed, but every show may look a tad bit different from ones years before. The show last year was “The Wizard of Oz,” which required many flying scenes, many children for the little town near the yellow brick road, and a little dog for Todo.
“Each show is a little bit different,” said Wools, “this year there’s no flying, no children, and no dogs.”
Finally, the cast of the Beauty and the Beast musical welcomes many in November to come watch the play. It will be Performed at 7 p.m. on the 7, 7 p.m. on the 9, and 2 p.m. on the 10.
