This is Layla Garcia and Karessa Ortega with EagleAir Radio. So how do you feel about the band? I think that the band is immaculate with their performances. I agree. I think they’re very well structured and put together in their performances. When we interviewed Sarah Janisch, a drum major for Nixa High School Band, she told us how she felt about band and her Grand Nationals experience. So explains how many practices it took to get to the Grand Nationals.
Speaker 2:
Yes, so well, we practiced daily in the mornings and then we had afternoon rehearsals and it was super busy and being a drum major, I had a lot more practices outside of just what everyone had. So it was pretty much a job, a part-time job.
Speaker 1:
Sarah tells her her feelings leading up to The Grand Nationals.
Speaker 2:
My freshman year I did go to Grand Nationals, so I already knew what it felt like, so I wasn’t nervous or anxious or anything. I just kind of was excited to sit and enjoy being there and watching all of these other groups that I had not seen perform the last four years in my high school. So I actually kind of felt happy, but also a little sad that my season was coming. My high school life was coming to an end
Speaker 1:
Share how she feels about getting into the Grand Nationals.

Speaker 1:
Sarah tells how she believes they did compared to other schools.
Speaker 2:
I think especially with the first time we went, our show was pretty solid and I feel like around our area especially, we did pretty well. We did better than most would.
Speaker 1:
Sarah Tells how band has changed her life.
Speaker 2:
So band kind of became my high school life. I made some friends outside of it, but a lot of my friends are that, and I’ve made a lot of my moral decisions with the people in band and I think it shaped and I wouldn’t have changed anything. It shaped my high school career and I really enjoyed it and I think it was the best I could have had. Really enjoyed it.
Speaker 1:
Band is growing and thriving every year with new additions. So until next time, this is Layla Garcia and Karissa Ortega signing off.
