Artificial intelligence has been easier to access now more than ever. It became more popular with the publication of Chat GPT technologies. It allows people to “chat” with an AI program, in a format similar to texting. There are many positive and negative aspects to using AI for recreational use.
Kadyn Garland, (10), uses AI for her engineering classes.
“We use it in engineering a bit to come up with pictures, or instructions to build something. Mostly to show how far it’s developed. I know some kids who use it as a way to find references for art or to photo edit and make their photos nicer,” Garland said.
It can help artists to build an image in their mind for their next creation. Lila Tudman, (10), utilizes AI for her artwork.
“I use AI in references for art when it comes to some fantasy-related stuff. Mostly for wardrobe design, and it’s also somewhat realistic, which is why I find it helpful for a prompt or style,” Tudman said.
However, some artists think that AI is taking opportunities and jobs away from them. Zoey Walker (10) is against mainstream AI use.
“As someone who does a lot of art, posts it online, and wants to work in the animation industry, I really hate AI art.”
She also realizes how it affects other artists too.
“It’s directly stealing from the original artists. You can even see traces of watermarks that artists put on their work to make sure it isn’t being stolen by the AI ‘artwork.’ ” Walker said.
