Many assume students involved in theater are adverse to sports, but the Nixa Theater department proved that stereotype wrong. On May 10 and 11, at North Nixa Baptist Church, students involved with Nixa Theater played a three-on-three basketball tournament with a total of nine teams participating for the second annual theater ball tournament.
Theater ball experienced exponential growth from the first tournament in 2023. Olivia Carlin (10) was proud of that growth.
“[theater ball was] Originally at an outdoor basketball court at a school last year, with only like four teams, and this year we got to play on a actual court, with nine teams, and a larger audience,” Carlin said.
Carlin was a sideline commentator and said she was glad she was able to have a role in the tournament this year.
“There was lots of energy coming from the audience and from both teams,” Carlin said “just watching everyone play their hearts out was really exciting to watch.”
Deacon Brown (11), a player on the Mailmen and MVP, had a lot of fun playing, especially during the championship game.
“Exciting moments for me were… the championship game where our team played against the next best team in a best of 3 series to win it all,” Brown said.
